Gilbert plows through two strings all the time both directions. The left hand cleans it up and that is the real “secret”. Troy Grady called this “swiping”. I noticed with distortion bridge pick up it adds a percussive sound common to Gilbert’s aggressive sound. The neck pick up masks it a lot and makes the single note sound even cleaner… but he is usually hitting two strings when crossing

nice that you pointed out it can be played on a 6 string, but to be honest, I'd go further and say nobody cares for the harmony or melody on this song, everyone is here for the rhythm, so unless you want to actually perform the song with a band, there's no reason to worry about the fretting hand besides that pretty memorable bend section

Back in the day when i was playing metal every day, i could play bleed both with alternate picking and with 2 downstrokes. Although, i do have to admit that playing it with the 2 downstrokes got my right hand too tired to play anything after that song.

There's no other way. You should do a breakdown of Sea of Lies by Symphony X. That riff is every guitarist's nightmare :) Great content!

The question is, can you play this song after playing an hour of other Meshuggah songs? I cannot understand how these musicians can play at this level for days/months in a row without causing themselves severe repetitive strain injuries. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure these guys have had injuries in the past, but THEYRE STILL touring. It blows my mind.

I've got longer fingers than paul so fretting is OK but i can't get the picking hand down at all.
